Background of the Study
Quantum computing is considered a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize fields such as cryptography, machine learning, and data science. However, despite its promise, the adoption of quantum computing in educational institutions, particularly in secondary schools, faces numerous challenges. The rapid advancement of quantum technologies has outpaced their integration into the curriculum at the primary and secondary education levels, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. There is a lack of sufficient quantum computing education and infrastructure in Nigerian secondary schools (Ogunyemi et al., 2024). The Federal Government College (FGC) Kano, in Kano State, provides a valuable opportunity to study these challenges and identify practical steps for fostering quantum computing education.
Statement of the Problem
Quantum computing holds significant promise for the future of technology, yet its integration into the Nigerian secondary school curriculum remains limited. The lack of awareness, skilled educators, and proper infrastructure in schools such as FGC Kano are key barriers to the adoption of quantum computing. While some Nigerian universities are exploring quantum computing, secondary schools face greater challenges, including curriculum gaps and a lack of access to quantum computing resources. This study seeks to investigate these challenges and propose solutions to enhance quantum computing adoption at the secondary school level.
Objectives of the Study
To identify the challenges faced by FGC Kano in adopting quantum computing education.
To evaluate the readiness of secondary schools in Kano State to integrate quantum computing into their curricula.
To propose strategies for overcoming the barriers to quantum computing adoption in Nigerian secondary schools.
Research Questions
What are the key challenges in adopting quantum computing education at FGC Kano?
How ready are secondary schools in Kano State for the integration of quantum computing into the curriculum?
What strategies can be implemented to overcome the challenges to quantum computing adoption in Nigerian secondary schools?
Significance of the Study
This study will shed light on the obstacles faced by secondary schools in Nigeria, particularly FGC Kano, in adopting quantum computing. The findings will help inform policy decisions and provide recommendations to improve the integration of quantum computing into the secondary education curriculum, fostering a new generation of quantum-aware students.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the challenges of quantum computing adoption at FGC Kano, Kano State. It will not address the adoption challenges in other schools or higher education institutions.
Definitions of Terms
